天 (aka Izakaya Ten)
I was in the Chelsea area yesterday after World Hoop Day, and Tomo and I decided to get some Japanese food. Just a few blocks away is an izakaya that I wanted to check out. They had a huge selection of sake, and a few types of shochu too. One thing that really stood out, and was a new treat for me, was a yamaimo, ume and avacado maki! The raw yamaimo was light, and crispy, and had just a little bit of the sliminess once you got past the rice. I love yamaimo, and have never had it before in sushi. I can’t wait to try this on sushi night at my house. We also got buta kakuni, yakitori (karubi, shishto & chicken), tempura and yakisoba.I did not even notice or try last night, but from the picture, it appears that wasabi is real. Another cool thing about ten–almost every dish was offered with either shio or tare. We got the yakisoba with salt instead of sauce.
