Ippudo ramen

I went to Ippudo ramen in the lower east side last week for the first time. It was so good I had to make a second trip in the same week! It’s hands down the best ramen I have had in New York so far, although it costs about twice as much as any I have had before. They are known for their tonkotsu (pork belly) broth. They also let you add toppings to the ramen like buta kakuni (braised pork) and chashu (bbq pork). The interior is a whole lot more trendy than any other ramen joint I have been to in Manhattan. You can sit at super modern tables, or at the bar where you can see the cooks work. Be prepared to hear lots of screaming, the employees really lay it on thick screaming the orders in.

This also marks the first post with my new point and shoot camera! I have been lugging around a huge camera from 1998. My new Canon Elph is small enough to fit in my pocket, and seems to take decent shots. There is also a hacked firmware that has tons of pro features that are not availble on the commercal software. I am so excited about it!

  1. What’s the miso paste-looking topping in the center of the photo on top?

  2. be prepared to hear lots of screaming? hehehe that is what usually happens at a *real* ramen spot ;-)

  3. @Tashin: So I went back and asked what the miso paste looking topping in the center was, and they would not tell me! It’s their “special sauce” it was a little spicy, and had a rough texture, but broke up smoothly into the ramen when mixed.
