Kiwano melon

I saw this little guy at the corner store on my street and had to pick it up. I asked the clerk where it came from, he promptly flipped it over and said California, pointing to the sticker. A little more research tells me they came from New Zealand. It is a relative to the cucumber, and tastes like a light and refreshing kiwi/banana/lime. It was a little tricky to get in and eat everything, but I managed to clean it out. I think I’m going to grab another one tomorrow, it was so refreshing. I wonder what kind of cocktail I should make with the juice…

  1. You ate everything?
I mean every part of it?

  2. @Tashin-san: I did not eat the skin. The last photo is after I ate the fruit. Everything inside the fruit was really soft.

  3. sometimes the seeds are a bit tough

  4. @Lina: I lucked out, everything was so soft it went right down. I keep meaning to grab a few and infuse some vodka. I can imagine it’s going to be so cool looking in the bottle! Perhaps I can grab some today.
