Market in Utsunomia

On my last day in Utsunomia, my friend TaShin-san took the local market in town. I needed to get some hachimitsu umeboshi for friends in New York. I could not help but notice the amazing fresh seafood they had there. It’s clear that someone makes a daily trip to Tsukiji market in Tokyo. TaShin-san was telling me that if there is an accident on the freeway to Tokyo, you can’t get sushi that night at any of the real deal sushi places in town. I wish our fish was that fresh here in the states.

The Tako tentacle above was over 1 foot long, by far the biggest I have ever seen. I saw so much fish while in Japan. I asked my friends what they thought of the overfishing in Japan, and they told me they never hear anything about it on the media. I was a little surprised that that since groups like greenpeace are predicing as little as 5 years left to some of the commercial fish stocks, like yellowfin.

  1. I didn’t say “anywhere”. A few real deal places.

  2. Gotcha. I fixed the entry. Thanks TaShin-san.
