Plate lunch
I know it may not be much to look at but this plate lunch (called plate lunch even if it’s for dinner) is no laughing matter. This Hawaiian dish is a serious meal. Plate lunch can be found all over the island, and could consist of anything from teriyaki beef to chilli and hot dogs. Pictured is loco moco: a hamburger patty underneath two eggs with gravy. All plate lunch are over two scoops of rice and accompanied by macaroni salad (which seems to be really popular on the islands.)
After eating this I had to go lay down for about an hour.

my japanese friend kept demanding that we go get loco-moco when we were in Hawaii… I thought she meant an alcoholic drink! After viewing it I no longer feared death.
Any time of the day that’s a gut bomb. I’ll have to try one in LA.
I told my co-worker from Okinawa about “Spam musubi” that you taught me the other day, and said “that sounds so Hawaii and Okinawa exclusive!”
He totally agreed.
It seems like, in Okinawa, you get something like loco moco, but with Spam corned beef instead of hamburger patty. Sounds like a knockout.
