Shouronpo
I don’t know how Joe’s Shanghai got so famous in Japan, but every friend of mine who comes to New York from Japan has requested that I take them here. I have no problems with that, as it is fantastic Chinese food. Their signature dish is shouronpo (soup dumplings). I am not sure how it’s actually called in chinese, but this is the Japanese bastardization of the word. These dumplings have pork (or crab if you prefer) in them, as well as a burning hot broth. The trick is to bite open the top and sip out the soup first before eating the dumpling. If you do not do this, you will most certainly burn your mouth. We also got two noodle dishes, crispy fried noodles with vegetables, and a broth with noodles and braised pork. Both were exceptional, as is everything at Joe’s. Joe’s is so busy that there is always a wait, but they pack people in so tight, filling every seat at every table, I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. Be prepared to share you table with strangers.

These look so yummy!. I think the Chinese name for the soup dumpling is xiao long bao
@ Ms. B: Oh! That makes a lot of sense. The pronunciation would be pretty similar, and there is not really a “B” sound in Japanese. Kind of between a “B” and a “V”
Yep! I am the one of them who shared the table with strangers. Lol
